Jennie Bond launches National Thinning Hair Awareness Month in Ireland and discusses her own battle with thinning hair!

As one of TV’s most well groomed presenters, Jennie Bond knows just how important it is to keep up appearances. So when Jennie recently discovered that her hair was thinning, she was naturally concerned.

“Like any woman, my appearance is important to me” says Jennie, “but there is also the added pressure of looking good in front of the camera too. Wide screen television and high definition hasn’t helped much either as every blemish is now much more on show, so when I discovered that my hair was thinning it made me much more self-conscious about my appearance.

For many sufferers, thinning hair leads to loss of confidence. Over half of Irish women (57%) have admitted the appearance of their hair affected their self image according to a recent poll.

That’s why thinning hair supplement specialist Viviscal is supporting ‘National Thinning Hair Awareness Month’ in Ireland for the month of June and aims to both raise awareness of the issue and provide sufferers with comprehensive advice and support to manage their thinning hair. National Thinning Hair Awareness Month is also supported by a consumer guide entitled ‘Heads Up’.

“As with many women, thinning hair became a problem for me as I began to get older. I started noticing a bit of thinness along my parting but it was more recently when I had a fringe cut it really began to show. My mother commented on my hair looking thin at the front and then my daughter in typical teenage-style remarked that I was going bald,” said Jennie Bond.

“It made me feel much more self conscious about my appearance and I tried to disguise it as much as possible by sweeping my hair across the thin area. I also grew nervous of brushing my hair too vigorously”.

After finding hair thickening shampoos of little use, Jennie researched thinning hair on the internet and discovered the Viviscal range from Irish healthcare company Lifes2good.

She continued: “I have always been interested in nutrition and diet so when I heard that Viviscal was drug-free and contains high levels of protein which nourishes thinning hair and promotes existing hair growth naturally it made sense to me to feed my hair from within. There is also lots of research to back up Viviscal’s worldwide success rate compared to other thinning hair supplements.
“After three months of using both the supplement and hair care products I can really see the difference. My hair looks thicker and glossier than it was before and my family has noticed it too.”

“Getting the right information about thinning hair was very reassuring to me says Jennie, “which is why I think Thinning Hair Awareness Month is so important.”

Thinning hair affects one in two men and one in three women in Ireland making it a common concern for thousands of people. While for some, it may become more prevalent with age, for others thinning hair may be a temporary response to a range of medical conditions, hormone changes or a stressful lifestyle.

National Thinning Hair Awareness Month is supported by a consumer guide entitled ‘Heads Up’ which is backed by industry experts Dr Deborah McManners (GP), Terry Calvert (Internationally renowned hair stylist, winner of 30 hairdressing awards) and Vetta Thompson (International Trichologist).

Jenny continues “I did a lot of research about thinning hair but there needs to be more information to help people generally. The more that thinning hair is brought out in the open the less embarrassing it will be to admit to it and the easier it will be for people to find solutions.

“Women feel more under pressure to look good than they have ever done which includes having healthy, glossy hair. If I can help others by sharing my experience and making thinning hair less of a taboo subject then I’m glad to put my name to Thinning Hair Awareness Month.”

Jennie uses Viviscal Maximum Strength, the latest advance in thinning hair treatment which naturally helps to reduce thinning hair and promote existing hair growth.
